I chose RU-N because I was drawn to its metropolitan nature, intimate size, and diversity. I felt I could fit in and expand my horizons, but at the same time, learn more about myself. I was also looking for a university I could call home – which is what I found.
Best Experience So Far
My best experience is becoming a Resident Assistant (RA) under Housing and Residence Life. This particular opportunity enabled me to grow mentally and psychologically. It helped me come out of comfort zone and challenge myself.
Career Plans, Goals, and Dreams
RU-N has taught me not to limit myself and become the best person I can possibly be. My professors serve as mentors and I see qualities in them that I would like to have. I came into college having a little idea of who I want to be but I am leaving with a huge scope and “dream plan”.
More Affordable Access
I am out-of-state, making tuition an even bigger burden to deal with, but RU-N helped me so much! I was offered the Rutgers Assistance Grant every semester and I was awarded the Cooper, Dorothy and David Scholarship through the Deans’ Office/Faculty of Arts and Science. Without this assistance, paying for college would have been impossible.
I currently serve as the President of the Organization of African Students and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Being involved helped my college experience become well-rounded and in a sense, feel complete. There’s never a dull moment here.
Living on campus has been great for me
I have made lifelong connections, learned about different cultures and built a family-oriented community. Our campus life helped me get out of my shell and explore more of RU-N and Newark.
I participated in the Rutgers Community Engagement Day where I learned so much more about Newark that I wasn’t aware of. The first time, I went to Branch Brook Park where we cleaned the park and planted new trees. The second time, I went to Weequahic Park where we helped clean up the park, learned its Native American history, and made it look more presentable and safe.
What I love most about Rutgers University-Newark…
How down-to-earth everyone on this campus is, people advocate for social justice, and the great vibe that radiates throughout campus… (everyone is WOKE)
Provide and describe one word to describe Rutgers University-Newark
Excellency. In every way I see this throughout Rutgers University-Newark’s academics, student life, career development, and residence life.
