Page intro (story)

“As scholars of innovation, my students do not learn to think outside the box. They learn to redefine what the box will look like. They cannot be limited to fit the world, they are encouraged to redefine it.”

Dr. Fernandez's Story

Professor Fernandez is currently a fellow at The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CUEED). Before coming to Rutgers he spent the last 5 years researching and documenting the socioeconomic renaissance of a former mill town in Western Massachusetts. This work, focused on members of the creative class (in particular artists and artisans), explored the influence and reach of individuals' lifestyle choices in the community's everyday life.

His research interests include urban entrepreneurship, the creative class, grassroots movements, and socioeconomic development of communities. He is proud to be a part of a high-performing and mentor-driven teaching faculty. His students seek his counsel on global internship opportunities, study abroad programs, professional development, and graduate studies options throughout Rutgers Business School.
