Dr. Sadovnik's Story

Dr. Alan R. Sadovnik, one of the nation's premier scholars of the sociology of education, urban and educational reform and improvement, and the history of progressive education, is a passionate advocate of issues concerning urban education. The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Rutgers recognized him in 2010 as a Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor of Education, Sociology and Public Affairs and Administration. He served as co-director of the Institute on Education Law and Policy from 2004 to 2015, and co-director of the Newark Schools Research Collaborative from 2000 to 2015. He also served as director (2004-2015) of the Urban Educational Policy Specialization in the Urban Systems Ph.D. Program, a joint program with the New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences).
