Page intro (story)
I chose Rutgers–Newark, because I knew that this university has one of the best Criminal Justice programs in the country. Another reason why I chose this university is because I fell in love with the size of the campus and how friendly the environment is.
Best Experience So Far
My best experience so far at Rutgers–Newark was when I was selected as Resident Assistant my freshman year. Being part of the Office of Housing and Residence Life has provided me with many opportunities which I am entirely grateful for, such as being able to make meaningful connections with the staff and with my residents. Living on campus has been a great opportunity. I feel like I’m more involved within the school, rather than just simply being a student of the school. I am able to attend a lot of events on campus, and also fortunate enough to embrace the city of Newark.
Career Plans, Goals, and Dreams
Rutgers–Newark has definitely helped me achieve my career plans. Because of this university I have been able to attend workshops on the law school admissions process and LSAT prep. This university also provides pre-law students with many resources and programs that enable students to get ready for law school.
My freshman year, I was a part of the First Year Leadership Council. Since my sophomore year I have been a Resident Assistant, and a member of the Rutgers Honor Council. Through these organizations I have been able to make an effect on the campus community in a positive way.
Living on Campus
The Office of Housing and Residence Life staff are great! They really care about the wellbeing of the students and try to create a safe and fun environment for the residents. Dining has definitely improved throughout the years. The food is tasty, and there is also a good variety of healthy options as well. The campus activities on campus are very diverse. There are many opportunities to learn about other cultures and develop new interests.
I have participated in volunteering for Open Houses, Rutgers Day, Fall Fest, and the We Speak Campaign. As a Resident Assistant I host fun and educational programs primarily targeting residents in the dorms. Getting involved with the community has made me learn more about the feelings students have, which makes me try to figure out in what ways these feelings can be addressed.
What I love most about Rutgers University–Newark?
What I love most about Rutgers–Newark is the location. There is a lot of beauty in the city of Newark. There are so many opportunities that can be taken advantage of right outside the campus, such as volunteering, interning, and access to other big cities like NYC and Jersey City.
