When I was a military-affiliated college student, I experienced first-hand the frustration that can result from navigating both the college environment and the military education benefit system while unaided. I was fortunate enough to have found a staff member who was very willing to help me make my way through these often confusing processes. The need for someone on campus who is dedicated to helping and vouching for military-affiliated students was made very apparent to me.
Now that I am serving in that position, I haven’t forgotten the difficulty I first experienced, or the assistance I received that enabled me to succeed. I often tell my students, "I know what it’s like to be on the other side of the desk.”
