Admitted Student Timeline for First-Year and Transfer Students

Get ready to begin your journey at Rutgers–Newark. Take note of what's coming up on your to-do list with these important dates.

  • Accept Your Admission

    • Accept our offer of admission in the Rutgers Application Portal by June 1, pay your $150 enrollment fee, and view all required steps for a newly admitted Rutgers–Newark student at go.rutgers.edu/portal.

    • Activate your Rutgers NetID at netid.rutgers.edu.

    • Access the myRutgers Dashboard at my.rutgers.edu to complete all the required Enrollment Pathway steps.

    • Submit your official final transcript to:

    Financial Aid Reminder

    • March 15, 2024 is the Rutgers priority filing deadline for the 2024-25 FAFSA, so you should act quickly if you have not yet applied. Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA).

    • Rutgers’ federal school code is 002629.

    • With the delayed release of the new FAFSA, you will receive financial aid notification in spring 2024. For more info, check here.

    • Financial aid award letters will be available online starting in spring for all admitted students who submitted a FAFSA by March 15, 2024.

    • Look for scholarship notification in the spring as well. Only those selected are notified. No separate application is required. Learn more about scholarships.

    Fall Enrollment Financial Aid Deadlines:

    • March 15 – Complete the FAFSA or NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA).
    • August 1 – Complete all financial aid requirements/requests for documentation.

    Spring Enrollment Financial Aid Deadlines:

    • December 1 – Complete the FAFSA or NJAFAA.
    • February 1 – Complete all financial aid requirements/requests for documentation.

    Campus Housing

    Enroll in Two-Step Login with Duo

    • The university requires all students to use a two-step login with Duo to access most services and tools requiring a NetID login, including the myRutgers dashboard. To learn more and enroll, follow the steps at it.rutgers.edu/two-step-login/.

    Placement Tests

    • Complete placement tests from March 1–June 7.

    • Placement testing for math, English, and most foreign languages is conducted online.

    • Activate your NetID through the myRutgers Dashboard.

    • Complete tests within 30 days of accepting your offer of admission unless you are awaiting accommodations.

    Reminder: Accept our offer of admission by June 1, 2024

    • Accept our offer of admission at Rutgers Application Portal.

    • Priority date to accept admission is June 1, 2024.

    • Attend an academic advising program.

  • May–August: Make Sure You Do the Following

    • Meet with advisers and obtain assistance in selecting appropriate courses.

    • You are more likely to graduate on time by registering for at least 15 credits per semester.

    Attend Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR)

    • Meet other new students, familiarize yourself with campus, and have your questions answered.

    • Spring and summer dates for SOAR Days are posted at myRutgers Dashboard. Register to attend a session through your Enrollment Pathway at myRutgers.edu

    • If you or your family members have questions related to placement testing, orientation, or registration, please email SOAR@newark.rutgers.edu.

  • Reminder: Accept Your Enrollment

    • June 1 Deadline: Accept our offer of admission to Rutgers–Newark through the Application Portal by June 1.

    View Your Term Bill

    • Receive your housing assignment/roommate info in early August.

    • Pay your term bill. Due date will be displayed on your bill.

    • Review deadlines for fall enrollment. Must meet eligibility requirements. Learn more about Expanded RU-N to the TOP.
    • August 1 All Students – Complete all financial aid requirements/requests for documentation.

Admitted Student Timeline for International Students

Take notes of these important dates as you prepare for your Rutgers–Newark journey.

  • I-20

    • Submit the required documents for your I-20 between January and June.
    • To receive your I-20, you must accept our offer of admission and submit the necessary financial documents dated January 1, 2024 or later.

      Forms

    • Merit Scholarships

      • Look for scholarship notification in March-April 2024.
      • Only those selected are notified. No separate application is required. Learn more about scholarships.
      • In order to receive a merit scholarship, awarded students must accept your Rutgers University—Newark offer of admission no later than June 1, 2024. Rutgers University—Newark merit scholarships are not transferable internally from school to school or to the New Brunswick or Camden campuses.

      • Obtain your I-20, pay your SEVIS I-901 fee, and apply for a visa between March–July.
      • After receiving your I-20 from Rutgers, pay your SEVIS I-901 fee at fmjfee.com and apply for your visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The fee may be waived for current visa holders. Visit ice.gov/sevis/i901/faq for more information.

      Required Orientation

      All newly admitted and enrolled International students are required to attend student orientation.

      • Register for International Student Orientation at myRutgers Dashboard from March–late August.
    • Accept Your Offer

      Academic Advising

      • Attend an academic advising program available from May–August.
      • Meet with advisers and obtain assistance in selecting appropriate courses.
      • Academic advising is also offered to students during International Student Orientation. Find more information at admissions.rutgers.edu/pathway.

      Credit Evaluation: Transfer Students Only

      • Receive your credit evaluation
      • May–August
        • All transfer students who have accepted our offer of admission will receive a credit evaluation by the appropriate academic dean’s office.
        • New Jersey community college students should visit njtransfer.org to view the transferability of courses

      Required On-campus International Student Orientation Planning:

      All newly admitted and enrolled international students are required to attend student orientation.

      • Register for International Student Orientation at myRutgers Dashboard from March–late August.
      • Please start your preparation and planning to attend the International Student Orientation on the Rutgers-Newark campus being held on August 29-30
    • Submit Final Transcripts

      • Apply for on-campus housing by June 7
      • Applications are available through the myRutgers Dashboard.
      • Applications received after June 7 will be processed based on availability.

      Prepare for Arrival

      • Prepare for arrival in the U.S. from June–August.
